MEANING AND IMPORTANCE OF THE FIRST AID
First aid this is the special help or assistance given to a sicker or an injured person until full medical treatment is available.
First Aider is a person or specialist who gives the first aid/help to a sick or an injured person.

NOTE: A First Aider should keep himself/herself safe to avoid dangers from the injured person/patient/victim/sick because there some dangers may lead to infections by pathogens such as viruses and bacteria, so she/he should wear protective gloves to avoid contact with blood, etc.

IMPORTANCE OF FIRST AID vThe following are the importance of the first aid:-
i.It reduces pains after being given first aid to a particular injury.
ii.It brings hope and encouragement when someone health become conducive.
iii.It saves life when someone health become comfortably to a particular injury.
iv.It helps the person to recover from shock.
v.It helps the person to prevent the illness or injury from becoming worse.
vi.It reduces fear of death after being having hope and encouragement about your health.
vii.It shows spirit of helping each other which means social interactions among the people in the community.

COMPONENTS OF THE FIRST AID KIT AND THEIR USES
First aid kit this is the small box or bag which contains the instruments that used in giving help/first aid to a sick or an injured person until full medical treatment is available.

The following are the components of the first aid kit and their uses, such as:- A pair of scissors; this is an instrument used for cutting cloth, paper, and other thin materials. It consisting of two blades laid one on top of the other and fastened in the middle so as to allow them to be opened and closed by a thumb and finger inserted through rings on the end of their handles.

Gauze; this is used to cover the wound so as to prevent dirt and microorganisms from entering to the wound.

Assorted bandages; this is used to secure an injured part in order to protect and support it.

Adhesive plasters; this is used to cover minor wounds or cut and grazes.

Cotton wool; this is used to clean and dry wound before applying the medicine.

Razor blade; this is used to cut any flaps of skin when cleaning the wound.

A pair of tongs; this is used to hold pieces of bandages when cleaning the wound.

Sterilized forceps and pins; this is used to remove splinters and grit from wound.

Pain killers/ant pain; this is used to reduce pain. For example, panadol, etc.

Soap; this is used to wash wounds, hands and medical facilities.

Gloves; this is used to protect the hands with the contamination of blood and others.

Safety pins; this is used to hold or secure bandages.

Antibiotic solution; this is used to apply in the wounds for killing microorganisms.

Spirit/iodine tincture; this is used to clean wounds so as to remove microorganisms and to reduce bleeding.

Petroleum jelly/Vaseline; this is used to treat the burns area.

Liniment; this is used to reduce muscle pains.

Gentian Violet (GV); this is used as an antiseptic to clean wounds.
